Region 6 on knife’s edge to reach 700 COVID-19 cases

The region barely missed the 700-case mark as 12 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were reported on July 16, 2020 by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD).

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 699.

Half of the latest batch of cases are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI):

– 27-year-old male from Pavia, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 690);

– 32-year-old male from Pavia, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 691);

– 32-year-old male from E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 692);

– 37-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 693);

– 52-year-old male from Lapuz, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 694); and

– 38-year-old female from Balasan, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 699).

Four Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) also tested positive:

– 30-year-old female from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 689);

– 36-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 696);

– 37-year-old female from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 697); and

– 53-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 698).

The two remaining patients are local cases – a 26-year-old male from Victorias City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 683), and a 53-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 695).

Thirteen repeat cases were also reported.

More recoveries were reported by the DOH-WV CHD on Thursday at 36.

628 results from Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing were released, with 603 yielding negative results.

The tests are administered by four DOH-accredited laboratories in the region: Western Visayas Medical Center and QualiMed Hospital in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Negros Occidental, and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

DOH data indicated that as of July 16, Western Visayas has 405 active cases, 282 recoveries, and 12 deaths.
