RELX | Reed Elsevier is celebrating its 10th year in Iloilo, marking a decade of transformation from publishing services to a technology-driven shared services hub.
Established in 2015 with 400 employees, RELX | Reed Elsevier now employs nearly 1,500 professionals, making it one of the largest private sector employers in the city.
The Iloilo site was RELX’s second location in the Philippines and its first outside Metro Manila, paving the way for Iloilo’s emergence as a viable destination for tech and business process outsourcing.
“What began as a traditional publishing or editorial content operation has evolved alongside our global business into a technology-focused center,” said Kat Ledesma, RELX | Reed Elsevier Iloilo Site Lead.
Ledesma credited the local workforce for the site’s evolution, saying, “The talent and dedication of our Iloilo team have been instrumental to our office’s growth.”
RELX | Reed Elsevier’s services in Iloilo now span editorial work, customer support, risk solutions, technology operations, and sales and marketing, reflecting the global company’s pivot toward data analytics and digital technologies.
The company selected Iloilo due to its educated talent pool, modern infrastructure at Iloilo Business Park, and sustained support from local government units.
Iloilo MICE Center Director Lea Lara, representing Mayor Jerry Trenas, praised the company’s contributions, stating, “RELX | Reed Elsevier has been a pioneer in Iloilo’s shared services sector, creating a path for others to follow.”
She added, “Their decade-long investment has strengthened our local economy and developed the skills of many Ilonggos.”
Lara affirmed the city’s ongoing support for businesses like RELX that invest in the region and contribute to inclusive growth.
Beyond economic development, RELX | Reed Elsevier has sustained corporate social responsibility efforts in Iloilo, including a nearly decade-long partnership with the Friends of Cancer Kids Iloilo Foundation, Inc. (FCKIFI).
The company organizes fundraising activities and blood drives in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross, benefitting children undergoing cancer treatment and other patients in need.
RELX also supports a range of non-governmental and local government programs aimed at improving lives in the city and surrounding communities.
“Our social impact has always been a key part of who we are,” said Ledesma, emphasizing the company’s long-term commitment to Iloilo’s development.
Globally, RELX has shifted from its traditional publishing roots to become a major player in data analytics and decision tools across sectors like science, legal, and risk solutions.
The Iloilo office is expected to play an increasing role in RELX’s technology operations, backed by a steadily expanding pool of skilled professionals in Western Visayas.
As RELX | Reed Elsevier enters its second decade in Iloilo, company officials expressed confidence in the site’s ability to support innovation, business resilience, and regional growth.
