BACOLOD City – City Administrator Em Ang said the Respiratory Center established by the city government is ready to accept patients by April 13, 2020.

Ang said that while the Respiratory Center is already completed, doctors said it will be fully operational on Monday because of the Holy Week.

Ang and Dr. Hector Gayares, a member of the Technical Working Group, oriented volunteer doctors, nurses, health care staff, sanitation group, and support group who will work at the Bacolod Respiratory Out-Patient Center located at the BAYS Center early this week.

She said Mayor Evelio Leonardia has inspected the center regularly since the start of its construction by the City Engineer’s Office.

“The respiratory center will be utilized as a consultation center. It has a triage area, 10 consultation rooms, a laboratory collection room, and mobile x-ray,” Ang said.

She also said that it will have volunteer doctors from the Canlaon Medical Society and Negros Occidental Medical Society.

The Center will allow patients with respiratory conditions such as cough, nasal congestion, asthma or flu, to consult volunteer doctors, nurses and other health care professionals at scheduled hours.

“If the patient needs to be admitted, doctors of the center will facilitate their referral for admission,” Ang said.

She said this will help ease the congestion at the emergency rooms and outpatient departments of hospitals in Bacolod for these kinds of conditions.

Ang also clarified that the facility is not a quarantine center but is merely a consulting center for mild respiratory cases amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
