BACOLOD CITY – Police already have a person of interest behind the killing of a retired elementary teacher at Barangay Haguimit, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as Irvi Ramos, 64, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said Ramos was walking home from a sari-sari store along with his nephew when he was shot at close range by a suspect whose face was covered with a bonnet.

“Possible na naghihintay na ang suspect, at doon inambush, medyo madilim kasi doon na part,” the police chief added.

Guadalupe said the victim suffered four gunshot wounds in his abdomen, thigh, and chest. He was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Guadalupe said the victim’s nephew was unharmed, as he was able to run and hide from the gun attack. The perpetrator fled on board his motorcycle.

Police recovered from the scene three fired cartridge cases of .45 caliber ammunition and a deformed fired bullet.

Guadalupe said Ramos had no threats prior to the killing and had no record at the police station for any complaints or involvement in any illegal activity.

He said they are exploring all possible angles, but he refused to elaborate further on the initial motive.
