RHEA Generics Leads 2024 Generics Awareness

RHEA Generics, a leading advocate for affordable healthcare, partnered with the Department of Health (DOH) and Mercury Drug Corporation for the Generics Awareness Month 2024 celebration. The event, held on Sept. 24 at Mercury Drug Q-Plaza Branch in Cainta, Rizal, highlighted the importance of making essential medications accessible and affordable for all Filipinos.

With the theme “Generics para sa kalidad na alaga at ginhawang abot kaya!”, the event underscored the role of generics in providing quality healthcare solutions without compromising affordability.

Notable attendees included Neogin Evangelista, president and general manager of Philusa Corporation; Johanna Mallari-Abella, unit head of the Policy, Program Development, and Research Unit of the DOH; and Corazon Sy Lim, vice president of the Merchandising Division at Mercury Drug Corporation.

Generics: A Pathway to Affordable Healthcare

Ms. Lim emphasized the significance of generic medicines, stating, “Today, we gather to commemorate the importance of generic awareness and its impact on our daily lives.” She noted that generics contain the same active ingredients as branded medicines and are crucial in ensuring access to healthcare for low-income families.

Mallari-Abella echoed this sentiment, saying, “Hindi natin kailangan ng mamahaling solusyon sa ating kalusugan. With our annual celebration of Generics Awareness Month, we aim to raise public awareness on the value and benefits of generic medicines.”

Meeting International Quality Standards

Addressing misconceptions about generics, Evangelista stressed their quality and compliance with global standards. “Access to healthcare is not a privilege but a right of every Filipino. Kaya po kami sa Philusa, we are dedicated to ensuring that this right is realized by every Filipino family,” he said.

RHEA Generics, a pioneer in the generics industry even before the Generics Act of 1988, continues to provide high-quality, affordable medications for conditions such as epilepsy, thyroid issues, and gout, along with vitamin supplements. “Epilepsy, thyroid problems, gout—even vitamin products—madami ang RHEA, all priced affordably for Filipinos,” Evangelista added.

Aiding Public Health through Collaboration

The event featured participation from community groups, including the Manggahan Pasig City PWD Association, Karangalan Senior Citizen Group, and Women’s Unity Empowerment Federation Inc. Free health consultations and services were offered, reinforcing RHEA Generics’ commitment to accessible healthcare.

Supporting the Universal Health Care Act

The partnership between RHEA Generics, DOH, and Mercury Drug aligns with the Universal Health Care Act, which aims to provide every Filipino with access to affordable, high-quality medicines.

“This event demonstrates the collective effort to promote generics as a solution to healthcare challenges in the Philippines,” said Evangelista.

RHEA Generics products are available at Mercury Drug Store branches nationwide. As a homegrown brand of Philusa Corporation with more than 40 years of experience, RHEA Generics remains committed to producing world-class, affordable healthcare products.
