A 53-year-old rider died after he allegedly collided with a police vehicle and got hit by another motorcycle evening of June 19 in Roxas City, Capiz.
Richard Deo, 53, a construction worker from Barangay Lanot, Roxas City succumbed to multiple body injuries.
Another rider, Aaron Balcoba, 30, of Ivisan, Capiz, was also wounded in the incident. But he was sent home after getting treated.
According to reports, Corporal Dominick Himan, 34, a member of the Dumalag Municipal Police Station, was driving a Mahindra police car when the collision occurred.
Himan and another policeman came from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) headquarters at Camp Teodorico Apil in Barangay Lanot and were on their way to Dumalag PNP when the collision occurred.
Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Paguia, Roxas City police chief, said Deo was passing through Barangay Cabugao around 8:40 p.m. Monday when the incident happened.
Witnesses said he was speeding and suddenly encroached on the opposite lane.
This allegedly left no time for Himan to evade the motorcycle.
Deo was tossed from his bike and landed in the middle of the road. He was then hit by Balcoba’s motorcycle.
Emergency responders took Deo and Balcoba to the hospital, but the former was declared dead on arrival.
Himan and his companion were unhurt.
Deo’s identity was not immediately known, as no identification card or driver’s license was found in his possession.
Family members only learned of an unidentified man who figured in a road crash at noontime on June 20.
According to his family, he brought a relative to the nearby Barangay Cabugao and didn’t mind wearing a helmet or bringing with him his wallet.
He also left his mobile phone at home.
Deo was believed to be drunk when the incident happened.
