A 43-year-old motorcycle rider and his 17-year-old companion died in a crash on the evening of March 16 in Sibunag, Guimaras.
The victims were identified as Arnolfo Ganancial, a resident of Barangay Sebario, San Lorenzo, and his nephew, alias Charles, of Sitio Lanag, Barangay Ayangan, Sibunag.
According to police, Ganancial and several family members had gone on an excursion to Javes Beach Resort in Barangay Sebaste, Sibunag, to celebrate his and his wife’s wedding anniversary.
While traveling home at around 7:30 p.m., their motorcycle crashed into a pedestrian walkway, throwing both victims off the vehicle.
They were rushed to Dr. Catalino Nava Provincial Hospital but succumbed to severe head injuries more than an hour later.
Colonel Rhea Santos, Guimaras police chief, said both victims were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
They were also speeding and were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, Santos added.
