The Rizal-Xentro Mall squad will rely on the expertise of young coach Jonathan Banal as he is set to replace JV Gayoso as the new orchestrator of the team.
Rizal confirmed and announced Banal’s replacement on Thursday, April 2, 2020, through its Facebook page.
Despite being young, Banal served as an assistant coach for the Mapua Cardinals and for the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers in the PBA-D League.
However, the task at hand would be tough for the celebrated coach as he is set to turn the tide for Rizal, who only recorded a disappointing 7-23 record the whole MPBL Lakan season.
“First we have to build a more competitive team, then change the mindset of the team na we will be no pushover team. I will just do my best to motivate them every day,” said Banal.
Aside from Banal, the Rizal management also brought in tested and proven names to reinforce the team, with players such as Jordan Rios, Mark Benitez, Nikko Panganiban, and ex-PBA gunner Eloy Poligrates.
Banal empashized that he will be leaning on Poligrates’ veteran experience to not only lead the squad offensively and defensively but to also serve as a leader to his young teammates.
“For sure, he will bring excitement sa mga games and sa mga fans because of what he can bring to the table. He is one of the experienced players on the team and I expect him to lead both on offense and defense,” he said.
