Thousands of residents in Barangay Balabag, Pavia, Iloilo, and surrounding subdivisions stand to benefit from a newly improved road completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The PHP5.939-million project, funded under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), was implemented by the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office. The project involved constructing a 648-meter stretch of Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) in the barangay.

DPWH 6 Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the paved road will boost accessibility, improve safety, open economic opportunities, lower maintenance costs, reduce environmental impact, and increase property values.

“The paved road provides residents with easier, more comfortable access to daily needs, creating a safer route to schools, offices, businesses, and other destinations,” Oropel said.

With numerous subdivisions in Barangay Balabag, Oropel noted that property values are likely to increase as homebuyers are generally willing to invest more in areas with good infrastructure, enhancing residents’ quality of life.

Oropel also explained that the concrete road enhances safety by offering a more reliable driving surface, eliminating potholes and other hazards that could lead to accidents.

District Engineer Mario G. Soriano added that the paved road improves visibility, making travel safer for both vehicles and pedestrians.

“This road project significantly contributes to local economic growth, improving access to basic services and economic opportunities for a better quality of life,” Soriano said.

Soriano noted that the improved road will enhance accessibility and connectivity, making it easier for residents and visitors to access essential services such as healthcare, education, and local markets.

Overall, road rehabilitation benefits both motorists and residents by enhancing safety, reducing accident rates, boosting economic growth, promoting social connections, and encouraging tourism, all of which contribute to a higher quality of life.Top of FormBottom of Form (DPWH)
