BACOLOD CITY – Police have deployed additional personnel to support a watchman in securing Talangnan Elementary School in Barangay Isio, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, following two recent robberies.
Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, Cauayan police chief, said the first incident occurred on Sunday night, Nov. 9, when unidentified robbers stole seven Department of Education (DepEd)-issued tablets, a DepEd-issued laptop, and a teacher’s personal laptop from the faculty office.
Three days later, early on Tuesday, Nov. 12, robbers broke into classrooms by destroying padlocks and took six more DepEd-issued tablets.
The school has yet to assess the total value of the stolen gadgets, according to Garinganao.
Although a watchman is assigned to the school, he did not hear any unusual noise or see any suspicious individuals on the premises, Garinganao said.
Garinganao noted that while the school has closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, they are currently non-functional.
He recommended that school officials install working CCTV cameras and advised teachers to enhance classroom security by adding grilles to windows and investing in high-quality padlocks.
The police have identified three persons of interest but declined to provide further details, pending the results of the investigation.
