The Swiss maestro is finally back.
After 13 months of tennis inactivity after undergoing double knee surgeries, Roger Federer confirmed that he is now ready to return and is now pain-free.
Initially planning to join the recently concluded 2021 Australian Open, Federer backed out and felt that he still needed more time to get back to 100 percent health.
“I’m very happy to be back playing a tournament again. It’s been a long time. I never thought it would take this long,” Federer said.
Federer’s long-awaited return will be witnessed in the upcoming 2021 Qatar Open and is behind Dominic Thiem in the tournament seeding.
“It’s just about ‘Let’s see how matches go, let’s see how training goes with all the top guys and professional players, not just sparring partners,” added Federer.
The living tennis legend also shut down retirement talks and further added that it never crossed his mind despite the hardships he faced throughout his illustrious career.
The 39-year-old tennis star then expressed his desire of playing his best in the grand slam tournament he excels the most, the Wimbledon.
“I hope then by Wimbledon I’m going to be 100% and that’s when the season starts for me. Everything until then it’s just ‘Let’s see how it goes,” shared Federer.
