Celebrating a decade of community service, the Rotaract Club of Metro Iloilo and Rotary Club of Metro Iloilo (RCMI) extended the spirit of giving this holiday season to 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Tigbauan, Iloilo, through their “Bag of Hope” Project Year 10 on December 9.
Started in 2014, the Bag of Hope Project initially involved distributing food packs to random people on the streets. However, this year marked a special milestone as the clubs celebrated the 10th year of the project. It shifted its focus to the PWD sector, distributing 100 packs of Noche Buena products to make the festive season extra special for those in need.
Rotaract Club President Valerie Parcon emphasized the significance of this year’s project, noting its importance as the clubs celebrated a decade of impactful community service together with RCMI President Carlo Robles and RCMI Anns President Jamie Julienne Jurquina.
For Robles, the Bag of Hope Project stands out as one of the highlights of this Rotary Year, since it is the first time the clubs directed their efforts towards a community of PWD beneficiaries, reflecting their commitment to inclusivity.
The project’s evolution from its inception during the term of Rotaract Club Charter President Elyrose Naorbe demonstrated its adaptability and commitment to making a positive impact.
The Bag of Hope Project received recognition as one of the most outstanding projects in Economic and Community Development within Rotary International District 3850.
With gratitude, the clubs expressed heartfelt appreciation to the generous donors and sponsors who played a pivotal role in making the initiative possible. Reflecting on their achievement, they promised continued dedication to spreading hope, emphasizing that Christmas is truly at its best when shared.
In a world that can sometimes seem challenging for those with disabilities, the Bag of Hope initiative embodies the enduring spirit of the holiday season.
