Rotary Club Bacolod Hosts Storytelling, Environmental Event

BACOLOD CITY— The Rotary Club of Bacolod, in collaboration with the Bacolod City Public Library (BCPL), organized a successful “Children’s Storytelling” and “Environmental Awareness Orientation for Parents” event on September 10, 2024.

Held for children and their parents from Brgy. 14 Day Care Center, the event fostered both literacy and environmental consciousness.

The storytelling activity, led by Ms. Amalia Araza of BCPL, captivated the young audience, enhancing their listening comprehension and encouraging creative thinking.

The activity also emphasized core values, aligning with Rotary International’s focus on basic education and literacy.

“We believe that nurturing children’s imaginations while instilling important values through storytelling can have a lasting impact on their development,” said Marjorie G. Dino, President of Rotary Club of Bacolod, during the event.

Dino was joined by club leaders Past President Pauline Cauycong, Past President and Club Secretary Frederick Anthony de Leon, and Rotarian Sam Solon. Guest speaker Erico Fidel also supported the initiative.

While children engaged with the stories, parents participated in an environmental awareness orientation, gaining vital information on Bacolod City ordinances regarding waste disposal and management. The session aimed to equip parents with knowledge on fostering healthier surroundings in their communities.

“Parents play a critical role in teaching their children the importance of keeping their environment clean. Through proper waste management and community involvement, we can all help protect the environment,” shared Ms. Marjorie Rodriguez, the event’s master of ceremonies.

The event underscores Rotary’s commitment to its areas of focus, particularly basic education and literacy, as well as environmental protection.

“This project not only promotes education among children but also aligns with our efforts to safeguard the environment through responsible waste management,” added Dino.

City Librarian Ms. Victoria Bingco, along with other BCPL personnel, parents, and volunteers, were present during the event, which culminated with school supplies and snacks provided for the children.

The Rotary Club of Bacolod has made this event an annual tradition, demonstrating its long-standing dedication to supporting education and community welfare.
