BACOLOD City – Police are eyeing land conflict as possible motive behind the killing of a government employee in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Police Lieutenant Ruby Aurita, deputy police chief of San Carlos City Police Station, identified the fatality as Ma. Elena Peque.

Aurita said Peque was riding a tricycle on her way to the City Hall when two unidentified men on a motorcycle tailed her and shot her (at close range).

“Nakibot na lang ang tricycle driver na may naglupok. Abi niya ang tire niya gali kay natiruhan na ang pasahero niya,” she added.

Peque succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in her right ear.

Aurita said the victim’s husband also died in a gun attack early this year due to grudges over land conflict.

Despite this, Aurita said they are exploring other possible angles in the incident.
