Sanitary landfill treats quarantine wastes

Iloilo City Government General Services Office (GSO) personnel are collecting a truckload or a ton of wastes a day from quarantine facilities in the metropolis.

These are from schools turned quarantine facilities and hotels serving the same purpose.

“The daily collected infectious wastes are brought to Calahunan Sanitary Landfill in Mandurriao district where it is processed and treated. The GSO team picks up waste from Mondays to Saturdays, and disinfects their equipment and trucks used in collection on Sundays,” said GSO Asst. Dep’t Head Engr. Neil Ravena.

“We request persons staying in quarantine facilities to segregate their garbage, especially their personal wastes,” he added.

The GSO disposal team wears complete set of personal protective equipment and gloves as precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). They were also trained on how to don and doff their PPE gears correctly. (Beatriz Angelica Pequierda/Iloilo City PIO)
