The 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) is finally ready to begin in mid-May next year to be held at Hanoi, Vietnam.

After several uncertainties of staging the prestigious sporting event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everything is now all systems go after an online meeting among head organizers and participating countries took place.

The development was also confirmed by the country’s Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Despite no specific day in the month of May was given by the organizers in Vietnam, the SEAG committee said they are keeping their options open while they decide on the most ideal date.

Originally slated to kick off this November 21 to December 2 2021, the government of Vietnam had to postpone the event due to their rising cases several months ago.

Now that everything is under control with the more defined health and safety protocols of Vietnam, the 2022 SEAG has received the green light from its government.

The 31st Hanoi Southeast Asian Games will feature 40 sporting events compared to the last SEAG with 54 sports hosted by the country.

POC president Tolentino confirmed that the organizing body already passed the country’s total athlete count that will join in Hanoi and that team PH will be competing in 39 sports.
