A single mother of two was arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation evening of February 2, 2021 in Pototan, Iloilo.

Kaye Aira Adelante, 26, of Barangay San Julian, Janiuay, Iloilo, allegedly pointed to financial challenges she faced in raising her two children, aged 3 and 7 years old, as the reason for dabbling in the narcotics trade.

The Pototan Police Station, Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (IPPO-PDEU) team 2, Regional Mobile Force Battalion’s 603rd Company, PNP Maritime unit, and Janiuay Police Station arrested Adelante after selling a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP2,200 at Barangay Malusgod, Pototan.

Recovered from her possession were two sachets of suspected shabu, the buy bust money, a shoulder bag, cash of PHP1,000, and a mobile phone.

Major Ciriaco Esquilarga, Pototan police chief, said they placed Adelante under monitoring more than a month ago for allegedly trading drugs in the towns of Janiuay and Pototan.

Adelante did not deny that she was into the illegal drug trade. She said she was persuaded by her cousin, a certain Nene, to deliver drugs to customers for a fee ranging from P300 to P500 per transaction.

She claimed that she was able to deliver shabu on 10 instances already.

Adelante also admitted to using illegal drugs. The last time she allegedly sniffed shabu was during the town fiesta of Janiuay in January.

Adelante is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
