BACOLOD City – Six former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) graduated from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last Tuesday.
According to the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB), two peace advocates who have hurdled the 10-month learning program and passed the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Assessment and Certification process of ALS will undergo Junior High School Level, while four others will be enrolled in Senior High School.
This year’s 12th graduation rites with the theme “K to 12 Graduates: Molded Through a Resilient Educational Foundation,” was held at the city’s gymnasium in Barangay Poblacion.
This is in partnership with the Guihulngan City Task Force to End Local Communists Armed Conflict (GCTF-ELCAC), and 62nd IB under the program of the Department of Education’s Bureau of Alternative Education Region VII, and Central Visayas Guihulngan City Division ALS.
The 62nd IB extended its appreciation and congratulations to the ALS graduates and ensures its continuous assistance to the former rebels who want to finish their education and find a stable job.
They are now equipped with the knowledge that they patiently learned from their ALS teachers on reading, basic mathematics, values education, and skills enhancement, the Army said.
Now, they will be able to enroll in a higher level of education and eventually reach their aspirations in life, the Army said.
