ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman is in trouble for allegedly stealing and encashing two of four cheques belonging to his fellow SK chairman at the Liga SK office.

Carl Niel Villaruz, SK chairman of Brgy. Bangon-Bangon in Sigma town, reported to the Sigma Municipal Police Station that SK chairman John Lynnel Alayon of Barangay Población Sur, also of Sigma, took four cheques from their Liga SK council office.

He said he discovered the incident on July 9, 2024, when he checked their records in preparation for the Commission on Audit (COA) review.

Villaruz and SK Sigma Federation Bookkeeper Jessica Marie Vargas went to Landbank – Dao Office to request the bank statement history of their barangay.

It was discovered that two cheques worth P46,800 and P47,500 were encashed on July 3, 2024. It was later learned that another cheque was attempted to be encashed but failed due to insufficient funds.

Alayon allegedly encashed the two cheques by forging Villaruz’s signature.

On July 14, 2024, Alayon’s mother went to the office of Punong Barangay Alex Adcan of Barangay Bangon-Bangon to settle her son’s wrongdoing by paying the total amount.

The other un-encashed cheque was returned to Villaruz.

Meanwhile, Villaruz is contemplating filing charges against Alayon despite the return of the money to the SK council of Brgy. Bangon-Bangon.
