After committing to buy 69 million kilograms of corn from local farmers, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) finally completed its purchase to help boost the country’s food supply and at the same time aid the farmers’ income stability.

With the help of the Department of Agriculture (DA), SMC was able to identify Cagayan, Central Luzon, Pangasinan, and Camarines Sur as the main supply areas for their corn purchase.

The most recent purchase was the 92,000 kilos from the farmer-cooperatives in Central Luzon and Pangasinan.

From the span of May 26-June 15, SMC will be expecting 50,000 kilos from Camarines Sur and another 100,000 kilos from the Maymatan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Camarines Sur.

SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang elaborated that within the purchase of the corn supply, the farmers under that area are paid immediately to avoid delays.

“The farmers are at the core of our food production and they are even more essential and vital during this pandemic. We encourage more to come forward and help us secure the needed ingredients and raw materials for our food production,” added Ang.
