Spain once again created buzz in the international tennis scene after listing Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in their official lineup for the upcoming 2024 Davis Cup.
According to multiple sources, Spain announced their lineup on September 24, 2024, but the players’ designation for the singles and doubles events are yet to be confirmed.
The recent development expected the majority of the ‘NadalCaraz’ tandem to be revived in the Davis Cup after the duo managed to reach the quarterfinal round of the Paris Olympics.
However, Nadal and Alcaraz got overpowered by the more experienced doubles pairing of USA’s Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram and fell in a sweep- 6.2, 6.4.
Despite failing to nab a medal in the prestigious Global Games, it was still a convincing campaign for Nadal and Alcaraz, given that this was their first time playing together in the doubles category.
Alcaraz is coming off a disappointing US Open outing where he failed to enter the semifinal round of the last Grand Slam event of the year.
The Spanish sensation got kicked out in Queens, New York, in the second round, tasting a stunning sweep at the hands of world no. 74 Botic van de Zandschulp
On the other hand, Nadal failed to make to the US Open and played his last major tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics.
Days after their stint in Paris, Nadal confirmed that he will be rehabilitating his injured quad and will be out for a while in competitive tennis.
Both stars are yet to confirm if they will represent Spain in the Davis Cup as they still have a month left before committing to the Spanish delegation.
