A DOUBLE victory!
STI-West Negros University Mustangs captured two championship titles in the 2019 Chooks-to-Go National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) 3X3 Bacolod Leg at the St. John’s Institute (SJI) covered gym, Feb. 4.
The team completed the celebration with a new title in the U18 (Born 2001) and U20 (Born 1999) divisions.
It was a neck-and-neck clash in the U18 finals, but STI-WNU B pulled away with couple of shots from downtown to edge La Salle, 13-8, and claim the title.
The team eliminated STI-WNU A, 21-7, while USLS survived Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), 14-12 during their semifinal matches.
In the U20 encounter, STI-WNU B escaped USLS B, 17-15 in overtime. Both teams exchanged easy baskets in the opening game and ended the regular period at 15-all. But after the break, the STI put up a solid defense to limit their opponents from the paint en route to victory.
Before reaching the finals, STI-WNU B blasted USLS A, 14-7, while USLS B pounded University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 10-8, on a buzzer-beater.
The team is still waiting for the venue of the national finals. They are now preparing for the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Roxas City, Capiz on Feb. 17-23.
This year’s edition of NBTC 3X3 was supervised by SBP provincial head Tony Agustin and Commissioner Bobby Tee.
