BACOLOD City – The Talisay City Police Station in Negros Occidental is waiting for the police officer to surface and undergo paraffin test following a complaint against him by a neighbor for alleged indiscriminate firing on New Year’s Eve.
Major Jigger Gimeno, city police chief, said he requested the cop, with a rank of Executive Master Sergeant, to undergo paraffin test to help them in their investigation. Gimeno said the paraffin test can help them determine if the allegations against the cop are true or not.
“Gahulat kami sa iya,” the police chief added.
Although inadmissible as evidence in court, paraffin tests are routine investigation tools which detect gunpowder residues in the hands and arms of a person who was believed to have fired a gun.
The complaint against the cop stemmed from a misunderstanding between him and his neighbor over the car parking in their neighborhood. Aside from that, both hold old grudges against each other, according to Gimeno.
Initially, police were not able to recover anything from the scene. But Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, deputy public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said a slug was turned over by the 50-year-old complainant four days after the incident happened.
The slug was subjected to ballistic examination, she added. Donasco said they are also waiting for the cop to surrender his firearm.
“For now, hinihintay natin ang presence nya sa station,” she added.
The cop is still reporting for duty at Silay City Police Station.
