Tanod faces frustrated homicide charge

CUARTERO, Capiz—A barangay tanod is facing a frustrated homicide charge for stabbing a driver Saturday night, May 18, during a benefit dance in Barangay Angub, Cuartero, Capiz.

Police Captain Alladen Talaban, Cuartero Municipal Police Station chief, said they were preparing to file the case against barangay tanod Raul Dequiña, 50, of Barangay Angub, who stabbed Johnny Cayanan, 47, of Barangay Sto. Niño, Dumalag town.

An investigation conducted by the police indicated that Cayanan had tried to enter the dance hall when Dequiña prevented him.

A heated argument ensued between the tanod and Cayanan, who was observed to be under the influence of liquor.

Dequiña suddenly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach and chest. The victim was rushed to Senator Gerardo Roxas Memorial District Hospital in Dao town and later transferred to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.

The tanod was arrested by the police and is presently under the custody of Cuartero PNP station for proper disposition.

Barangay Angub was celebrating its annual fiesta when the incident happened.
