TD Lannie triggers rockslide, landslide in W. Visayas

Heavy rains and strong winds caused by Tropical Depression “Lannie” caused landslide and rockslide incidents in parts of Western Visayas.

TD Lannie passed by the Panay Gulf last Monday night, October 4, 2021 and brought heavy rains to the region.

As of 9 a.m. of October 6, 2021, the Office of the Civil Defense 6 reported landslide and rockslide incidents in Antique and Guimaras due to TD Lannie.

A minimal landslide occurred along the national road of Brgy. Igdalaquit, Tobias Fornier in Antique. The road remains passable for all types of vehicles.

Meanwhile, 51 families were affected by a rockslide from a mountain slope in Sitio Boro-Boro, Barangay Dagsaan in Buenavista, Guimaras.

The rockslide destroyed a house and partially damaged another. The affected families were moved to an evacuation center in the barangay. No one was hurt in the incident

TD Lannie also displaced seven families composed of 17 individuals in Mambusao, Capiz; 17 families with 62 individuals in Zarraga, Iloilo; and 50 families (164 individuals) in Iloilo City. They were also moved to evacuation centers.

OCD-6 also reported a drowning incident which resulted in the death of 64-year-old Rogelio Tawag Rios of Brgy. Sto. Nino, Dumalag, Capiz.

But the Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) has yet to confirm if the incident was due to TD Lannie’s effects.

TD Lannie also flooded 38 barangays in Capiz; 2 barangays in Iloilo Province and Bacolod City; and 15 barangays in Iloilo City. Floods in majority of the affected barangays have already subsided.

As of 11 a.m. of Wednesday, TD Lannie was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
