A 46-year-old teacher was fatally stabbed inside his home in Barangay Mandog, Maasin, Iloilo, on the evening of Sept. 12.

Ian Clementir, a teacher at Dagami National High School and a pastor, was with his four children when the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jhed Domingo, entered their home around 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Clementir was playing with his young son when Domingo barged in and attacked him.

The victim’s children immediately ran to their room, while his wife, who was in the kitchen at the time, fled outside to seek help.

Staff Sergeant Faith Jan Leysa, a Maasin police investigator, said Clementir tried to prevent the suspect from attacking his children.

When police arrived, barangay officials and tanods had already placed Domingo under citizen’s arrest.

Clementir was rushed to Ramon Tabiana District Hospital in Cabatuan but died from at least seven stab wounds to various parts of his body.

Following his arrest, Domingo remained silent, and police have yet to determine a motive for the attack.

“It appeared to be a random attack. The suspect didn’t personally know the victim,” Leysa said.

Domingo, a resident of Barangay Salacay, Cabatuan, reportedly has relatives in Mandog village. Police said Domingo seemed intoxicated during the incident.

Authorities also discovered that Domingo had previous complaints filed against him in Cabatuan for alarm and scandal. He had also been the subject of a search operation.

Domingo is currently in custody, pending the filing of charges.
