TecPlata enhances competitive edge with deeper access channel

TecPlata, the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI)-operated terminal in La Plata, has set a new standard for Buenos Aires ports by completing the dredging of its marine channels to a depth of 10 meters.

“The development gives TecPlata an advantage over the terminals in the city of Buenos Aires, where the channels are limited to 10 meters,” said Juan Pablo Trujillo, TecPlata’s chief executive officer.

Trujillo added that TecPlata’s next objective is to deepen the access channel to 14 meters. “This will bring Argentina on par or better than other ports in the region,” he noted, emphasizing that the deeper channel would provide TecPlata with a unique competitive edge in the Buenos Aires area.

As the most modern marine terminal in the region, TecPlata occupies a 40-hectare site near the ocean, offering substantial advantages for international shipping companies and cargo operators in South America.

The terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art port facilities and robust security systems, further enhancing its appeal as a strategic hub.

With a design capacity of over one million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), TecPlata is well-positioned to accommodate future increases in foreign trade, reinforcing its status as the preferred gateway in Argentina.

This expansion is expected to bolster the country’s role in the global supply chain, solidifying TecPlata’s position as a key player in the region’s maritime logistics.
