Teen, child drown in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – Two young people drowned in separate areas in Negros Occidental last Sunday.

In Murcia town, a 19-year-old girl from Bacolod City died after she drowned in a river in Barangay Caliban.

Based on the police investigation, the victim, along with her family and friends, went swimming. However, she reportedly reached the deep part of the river and went missing.

Her family searched for her and found her unconscious underwater.

The victim was rushed to Murcia Rural Health Center but was declared dead.

In Ilog town, a nine-year-old boy from Cauayan town died after he also drowned in a beach resort in Barangay Galicia.

Police Major Joseph Partidas, town police chief, said the victim went on a family outing. However, while they were swimming, the victim got separated from his life preserver.

Partidas said the victim’s companions at the sea failed to notice him drowning. It took a while for the child to be found unconscious underwater.

The victim was rushed to Dr. Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City but was pronounced dead.
