BACOLOD CITY — A 41-year-old tricycle driver who was reportedly suffering from depression allegedly locked his 17-year-old daughter inside their home and mauled her to death in Barangay Rizal, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
In a radio interview, Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, chief of the Sagay City Police Station, said the victim’s grandfather sought police assistance after he heard his granddaughter shouting from the suspect’s room.
Responding officers were met with silence when they arrived at the house, prompting authorities to force open the door.
When police entered the room, they found the victim injured and lying on the floor, while her father was seated on the bed staring at her, Flores said.
Flores said the suspect had taken his daughter to his room to talk, but it remains unclear how the discussion turned violent.
The victim was reportedly struck in the head with a pipe and was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead, according to Flores.
Flores said the arrested suspect, identified only as “Joe,” alleged that he had not slept for a week.
