Fashion guru Nono Palmos, hailed as the father of Iloilo’s heritage textile Hablon, recently put on a grand show featuring his masterpieces donned by Iloilo’s who’s who.
The event unfurled at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel under the baton of Raymond Villanueva
Adding glam to the event was the ballet production of Novy J. Bereber and Annie Divinagracia-Sartorio dancers.
This splendid production was produced by Iloilo’s foremost philanthropist-cum-businesswoman Putli Fuerte to raise funds for Zonta Club of Iloilo’s Inc. projects. “
“Weeks after the show, together with my co-Zonta officers and members in celebration of our club’s 50th anniversary, we were able to visit two of the eight groups of hablo nweavers in Miagao. The proceeds of this production was turned over to the local government unit of Miagao who in turn will divide the amount among the groups through their respective cooperative units. This is in-line with Zonta’s advocacy to empower women. On a personal note, I want to thank all the wonderful people who modeled with me in this show. From strangers, they became my acquaintances. From being my nodding acquaintances they have become good friends. It wasn’t the 30 minutes of fame; it is the bond we formed to help support the hablon craft and help promote it to the global fashion scene,” Ms. Fuerte said.
