Three charged for illegal fishing in Roxas City

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Three individuals are facing charges for illegal fishing in the seawaters of Barangay Banica, Roxas City.

The suspects, identified as Ren, Tony, and John, all of legal age and residents of Roxas City, were caught in the act on Sunday afternoon, June 2, conducting illegal fishing activities using dynamite.

Assorted fish recovered from the suspects tested positive for dynamite chemicals, according to results released by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The Capiz Maritime Police Station (CMPS) based in Barangay Culasi also recovered from the suspects one improvised dynamite placed in a longneck bottle, fishing paraphernalia, and a motorboat.

According to PMaj. Wilmar Bolivar, CMPS chief, the suspects were released from police custody after the reglementary period of detention lapsed.

Charges for violating RA 10654 Section 92 (Fishing Through Explosives, Noxious or Poisonous Substances, or Electricity) and Section 126 (Possessing, Dealing in, or Disposing Illegally Caught or Taken Fish) were filed against them on Wednesday afternoon, June 5, before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
