Three charged with illegal gambling in Maayon

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Three individuals were charged with illegal gambling after they were arrested on Saturday afternoon, May 4, while participating in an illegal cockfight at Sitio Mainit, Barangay Aglimocon, Maayon, Capiz.

The Maayon Municipal Police Station filed charges on Monday, May 6, against individuals known by the aliases “Elter,” 36; “Eldie,” 37; and “Andro,” 76, all residents of Barangay Aglimocon, for violating PD 1602, the Anti-Illegal Gambling Law.

The suspects were apprehended by police during the cockfight. Authorities recovered 200 pesos in bet money, a dead fighting cock, and other gambling paraphernalia from the scene.

The accused are currently being held at the Maayon PNP station pending further proceedings.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 45-year-old man wanted for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority on Saturday morning at his residence on Bayot Drive.

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Jennie Ann Tayag Logronio of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities, Branch 1, Roxas City on May 2, 2024. He was released after posting the recommended bail.

Additionally, another wanted individual, known as alias Ren from Brgy. Dayhagan, Pilar town, was arrested the same morning at a relative’s house in Poblacion, Pilar, Capiz. He faces charges of attempted homicide under a warrant issued by Judge Hannibal R. Patricio of the MCTC President Roxas, Capiz on April 17, 2024.

The court has set bail at 36,000 pesos for his temporary release.
