BACOLOD CITY – Three motorcycle riders were killed in a collision with a dump truck at Hacienda Nieva, Barangay To-oy, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as alias “Jinard” and his brother alias “Edwin,” both residents of Barangay Tagukon, and Jinard’s co-worker alias “Danny” of Barangay Carol-an, all from Kabankalan City.
Police Lt. Col. Anthony Grande, chief of the Himamaylan Police, said the victims were traveling to Bacolod City on two motorcycles when the accident occurred around 7 a.m.
The dump truck, driven by a 47-year-old resident of Isabela town, reportedly overtook two sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and collided with the motorcycles.
The truck swerved to the left, dragging the victims before falling into a nearby sugarcane field.
One of the victims was pinned under the truck, while the other two were found in the middle of the road.
All three victims were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Grande said the truck’s company has extended burial assistance to the victims’ families.
However, discussions are ongoing regarding whether charges will be filed against the truck driver, who is now in police custody.
