BACOLOD City – Three men drowned while gathering shell fish at Himogaan river in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Police identified the victims as Jerry Maggada, 52, of Barangay Poblacion 2; Dwins Diare, 21, and Sundy Dorignel, 38, both residents of Barangay Poblacion 1.

Police Lieutenant Abundio Diaz, deputy police chief of Sagay City Police Station, said the three victims drifted into the water due to the strong river current.

“Wala nila siguro na calculate. Gulpi nag baskog ang tubig, naanod sila,” he added.

Maggada’s body was found floating on the river by rescuers later that day. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, Diaz said.

Rescuers continued the search and rescue operation the following day wherein the bodies of Diare and Dorignel were retrieved, he said.
