Speculations of trade talks were shut down after the TNT Tropang Giga announced that they already signed rookie Mikey Williams to a two-year contract deal.
One of the most entertaining players during his stint in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), Williams will be taking his talents to the big league.
Quick, strong, and a good shooter, Williams was often dubbed as “the next Jayson Castro” after showing shades of the Gilas Pilipinas staple.
Williams averaged impressive numbers in his MPBL stint after posting 15.9 points, 6.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals for the GenSan Warriors during the Lakan Cup.
TNT showed its desire of pursuing Williams after getting the nod of both the NLEX Road Warriors and the Blackwater Elite in a three-way-trade.
NLEX gave up the pick for TNT in exchange for a bunch of veterans while Blackwater received the same offer to complete the Tropang Giga’s grant.
Williams will look to have an immediate impact on the team since Castro is still recovering from his injury and Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s taking his leave of absence.
