BACOLOD CITY — An upland barangay in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, has received PHP892,040 worth of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to enhance community safety.
Twenty-seven CCTV cameras with complete accessories, including a 32-inch LED television for monitoring, were recently installed at Hacienda TCG Proper and Hacienda Sta. Isabel in Barangay San Isidro.
The equipment was officially turned over to the community on March 20 by DSWD Region 6 project development officer Dan Donald Candare and KALAHI-CIDSS-PAMANA area coordinator Karen Joy Calizo.
They were joined by municipal area coordinator Jose Sellado and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Emy Lyn Hibionada, who represented Mayor Marvin Malacon.
The monitoring system will be operated and maintained by the TCG Small Water Irrigation System Association, led by chairman Noel Loro.
The project falls under the DSWD’s KALAHI-CIDSS-PAMANA program, which uses a community-driven development approach to reduce poverty and improve local service delivery.
Barangay Captain Ronnie Loro said the CCTV cameras will significantly enhance the security of residents.
“These cameras are a big help in keeping our barangay safe,” he said.
He added that the footage could provide vital evidence in criminal investigations and help identify suspects.
Loro also expressed gratitude to the DSWD for implementing the project in their barangay.
The KALAHI-CIDSS-PAMANA program aims to reduce poverty, support economic recovery for marginalized groups, and empower communities to prepare for disasters and conflict-related risks.
PAMANA serves as the national government’s peace and development framework, promoting sustainable governance and development in conflict-affected areas.
