What a stunning sequence of events going on inside the Denver Nuggets’ camp.

With only three games remaining before the NBA regular season concludes, the Nuggets pulled off a shocking move after relieving head coach Michael Malone from head coaching duties, announced on April 9, 2025.

“Coach, thank you for your dedication to the Denver Nuggets throughout the years. Your impact on this team and city will not be forgotten,” wrote the Denver franchise on its official social media account.

After leading the Nuggets to their first-ever NBA championship title in 2023, who would’ve thought that the architect who designed Denver’s system would be ousted from his post a week before the playoffs kick off?

Malone is bound for his seventh consecutive run with the Nuggets heading to the postseason but voila, assistant tactician David Adelman is now the new captain of the ship.

The specific reason is yet to be unraveled but the Nuggets’ owner, Josh Kroenke, who is also the vice chairman of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, already issued an official statement.

“This decision was not made lightly and was evaluated very carefully, and we do it only with the intention of giving our group the best chance at competing for the 2025 NBA championship and delivering another title to Denver and our fans everywhere,” Kroenke said.

Before Malone’s firing, the Nuggets’ hopes of a sure home-court advantage in the playoffs started to vanish after losing four games in a row.

Denver’s losing streak began when the Minnesota Timberwolves stunned them by a point, 140-139, last April 2, 2025.

After that disappointing defeat, the Nuggets began to lose grip and fell at the hands of the Spurs, Warriors, and the Pacers.

From a favorable playoff position as the Western Conference’s no. 4 team, the Nuggets suddenly sensed danger as their four-game slide boosted the chances of Golden State, Clippers, Minnesota, and Memphis to take over their spot, given if they will sweep their remaining games.

The worst case scenario for the Nuggets is if they fail to bounce back and fall down to the NBA Play-In Stage. Their remaining scheduled games will be against Sacramento, Grizzlies, and the Rockets.

Can Adelman perk up Denver amid the shaky front office situation? Or will Malone’s disappearance cause more tension that can disrupt the team’s chemistry?
