After months of waiting, the Philippine national athletes who were qualified for the Tokyo Olympics will begin their bubble training in Calamba, Laguna. The famous INSPIRE Sports Academy will be the training ground after the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.
“The bubble trainings we are going to do will start this week, first week of January, to really prepare for the Tokyo Olympics,” Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Ramon Fernandez said.
PH athletes who already clinched seats in the Olympics are Carlos Yulo, EJ Obiena, Eumir Marcial, and Irish Magno. However, Marcial already set up his training camp in the US, Obiena training in Europe and Yulo striving hard in Japan.
With the Olympics’ schedule taking place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, commissioner Fernandez is hoping that their representatives will have enough time to train and bring glory to the country.
“I hope the World Health Organization and the different countries affected by it would be really able to curve that surge again. We’re hoping na hindi pumasok dito sa atin ‘yan,” Fernandez added.
