MIAGAO, Iloilo – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 6 and DTI Iloilo Provincial Office on Aug 11, 2023 initiated a meeting between De Paul Budbud Seasalt Manufacturing and Shinn Wolfe, a distinguished venture capitalist from California, USA.
The purpose of this gathering was to explore investment avenues that would further elevate the unique artisanal sea salt production in Miagao.
Under the guidance of OIC-Regional Director Ermelinda Pollentes, DTI Region 6 took the lead in coordinating this significant collaboration.
Their efforts were bolstered by the DTI Iloilo Provincial Office, helmed by Director Ma. Dinda Tamayo, and the support of Miagao local government.
At the heart of the dialogue is De Paul Budbud Seasalt Manufacturing, a homegrown venture located in Brgy. Mambatad, Miagao that has been nurtured by DTI’s support.
Founder Lorlie Noblezada has dedicated herself to preserving the traditional art of Budbud sea salt production, a heritage that holds cultural significance in Miagao.
The meticulous process that goes into crafting this artisanal salt has garnered attention both locally and internationally.
During the visit, Shinn Wolfe was personally guided by Noblezada through the intricate salt-making process and had the unique opportunity to taste the exceptional salt produced through this traditional method.
Mr. Wolfe’s visit is an off-shoot of the partnership between DTI Region 6 and Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Silicon Valley, through Trade Commissioner May Nina Celynne P. Layug.
Budbud Seasalt was one of the finalists of last year’s Moonshot TNK Pitching Competition for Startups, a program of DTI Region 6 that aims to support local startups to jumpstart their technological and innovative solutions.
