BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here reported a drop in traffic accidents from January to November this year.

Based on data from Nocppo, only 132 cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide were recorded this year compared to last year’s 141 cases.

Nocppo also recorded 390 cases of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries in 2020 against the 640 incidents in 2019.

The provincial police office also reported 296 cases of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to properties this year, lower compared to 437 cases in the previous year.

Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, deputy public information officer of Nocppo, said the reduction in traffic accidents can be attributed to the lesser number of travelers and motorists on the road since most people are staying at home due to the pandemic.

Donasco said that the youth are most likely to travel to various places, but because of the pandemic, they were not allowed to go out.

“Parang iyon po ang nakita namin na factor na nagpa-reduce po sa mga aksidente sa kalsada,” she said.
