Trisha Genesis Aims to Reignite Career With Capital1

Trisha Genesis has returned to the volleyball court, embracing a new chapter with Capital1 in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The 5-foot-7 outside spiker is determined to recapture the spark that once made her one of the sport’s brightest prospects. This comeback comes after a string of challenges and setbacks that tested her resilience.

Genesis began her professional volleyball career in 2022 with Akari during the PVL’s Reinforced Conference. However, her most memorable performance came at Adamson University, where she led the Lady Falcons to a playoff spot in UAAP Season 84, cementing her place among the league’s top players.

That season, she ranked as the sixth-best scorer with 184 points, showcasing her potential to compete at an elite level.

Despite having three years of collegiate eligibility left, Genesis made the bold decision to turn pro. It was not an easy road, as opportunities were scarce, and consistency proved elusive.

In 2024, Genesis transferred to Nxled during the Reinforced Conference, but limited playing time kept her from making a significant impact.

Her determination, however, remained unwavering. When Capital1 offered her a roster spot midway through the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference, Genesis embraced the opportunity to start anew.

“Parang fresh nga ulit sa PVL kasi new system, ibang taong kasama, mga never kong nakasama dati pa, even the coaches. Talagang back to zero,” Genesis said after debuting with the Solar Spikers.

In her first match with Capital1, Genesis was named to the starting lineup, an immediate testament to coach Roger Gorayeb’s confidence in her. Although the team suffered a 0-3 loss to defending champions Creamline, Genesis led the team in scoring with 10 points and recorded five excellent receptions.

“Super happy, sobrang saya makabalik sa taraflex at makalaro na sa bago kong team,” Genesis shared. “Sa nilaro po namin ngayon, para sa akin, okay siya kasi nakipagsabayan po kami, knowing Creamline na defending champion talaga.”

Capital1 is currently 1-5 in the standings, sitting in 10th place. Genesis’ arrival offers much-needed depth and experience, alongside Gorayeb’s seasoned coaching.

For Genesis, the trust placed in her by her coach and teammates has been deeply motivating.

“Thank you so much po, lalong-lalo na sa mga coaches, kay Coach Roger, kasi paglipat ko pa lang, yung tiwala niya agad sakin, buong-buo. Thank you so much coach at sa teammates ko po kasi talagang tinanggap nila ako nang buo,” Genesis said.

As Genesis embarks on this new chapter, she aims to elevate Capital1’s performance and reignite her career, fueled by the belief and support of her team. (PVL)
