BACOLOD CITY — A 59-year-old man was killed, and one of his two helpers was injured after a truck they were riding fell off a cliff at Hacienda Loygoy, Barangay Granada, on Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as Mario Tandog, a resident of the same village.

Police Capt. Portia Nillosan, head of Police Station 5, said Tandog and his two helpers were on their way to collect organic fertilizer when the truck’s brakes malfunctioned around 6:30 a.m.

The truck began rolling backward, tipped onto its side, and then plunged off the cliff, Nillosan said.

One of the helpers managed to jump from the vehicle, while the other was thrown out. Tandog, however, was trapped in the driver’s seat and unable to escape.

Rescuers took several hours to extricate Tandog from the vehicle due to the challenging terrain.

The injured helper was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, while the other helper was unharmed.
