BACOLOD City – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Bacolod launched two separate entrapment operations against alleged gunrunners in Negros Occidental which led to the arrest of two persons in La Castellana town last Tuesday.
Dubbed “Oplan Paglalansag Omega” and “Oplan Salikop,” CIDG operatives conducted the first operation at Barangay Robles that resulted in the arrest of Jovel Sumugat, 46, of Barangay Cabacungan.
Recovered from Sumugat were the P100 marked money, boodle money, a caliber .9mm (Luger KG-9) pistol, two magazines, a silencer for KG-9, five live ammunitions, a cellular phone, and assorted identification (ID) cards.
Chief Master Sergeant Ramiro Gocotano, chief investigator of CIDG-Bacolod, said Sumugat had IDs of Task Force Kasanag Inc., Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group, Kabayan Action Group, and Guardians.
Also arrested in the said village that day for the same offense was Renon Taclobos, 31, of Barangay Delicioso, Ilog town.
Police confiscated from Taclobos the P100 marked money, boodle money, a sub-machinegun pistol, a magazine assembly, and five live .9mm ammunitions.
According to the CIDG, the suspects failed to show pertinent documents authorizing them to possess or sell the said firearms.
Both of them were believed to be members of “Tonggo Group” allegedly involved in gun-running activities here and in the province.
Gocotano said that charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions are being readied against the two suspects who are now detained at the CIDG-Bacolod office.
