Two dead, seven injured in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed while seven others, including a family, were wounded in three separate road accidents in Silay City, Negros Occidental on April 28 and 29, 2021.

On Wednesday night, a senior citizen who was crossing the street on a bike was allegedly hit by an Isuzu Crosswind driven by 22-year-old Karl Jhovan Santander at Barangay Guinhalaran around 7:35 p.m.

“Na alang-alang siya (Santander) siguro kag nalab-ot niya gid ang bike,” Police Lieutenant Robert Petate, city police chief, said.

 

Petate identified the fatality as Orlando Lachica, 67, of the said village.

Petate said Lachica fell from his bike and suffered multiple injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Petate said Santander was unharmed and is detained at Silay City Police Station.

The following day, a motorcycle driver died while his 31-year-old female companion was injured after they figured in a collision with a Mitsubishi Adventure at Barangay Lantad.

Petate identified the fatality as Joevel Ramirez Jr., 35, of Barangay Villamonte here.

Petate said the motorcycle, which was on its way to Cadiz City, allegedly overtook a truck and collided with the sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 40-year-old man from Quezon City traveling on the opposite lane.

“Medyo dasig guro dalagan niya (Ramirez) kay pakadto sila Lakawon aga pa,” he added.

Petate said the SUV driver is also placed under police custody.

Meanwhile, a family of six was wounded after their multi-cab was reportedly hit by a 10-wheeler truck at Barangay Bagtic yesterday.

Petate said the multi-cab fell on its side and the passengers, including children aged 8, 9, and 16, and their driver were thrown off the vehicle due to the impact.

The victims suffered minor injuries, while the truck driver is detained at the police station.
