BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed while three others were wounded after they figured in a collision between a motorcycle and a tricycle at Crossing Hacienda Flora, Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

Police identified the fatalities as Ann Krizel Genobio, 20, of Barangay Orong; and motorcycle driver Jury Alvarez, 21, of Barangay Tan-awan.

Wounded were Genobio’s mother Alma, 53, and brother Kent Arnel, 25, both residents of Barangay Orong, and Alvarez’s mother-in-law Mercy Losalo, 41.

Police Lieutenant Dennis Melgarejo, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Genobio and her mother were riding a tricycle driven by Kent Arnel on their way to the city proper when the alleged speeding motorcycle reportedly overtook another motorcycle and hit the side car of the tricycle.

Alvarez and Losalo, who were not wearing helmets, were heading home when the accident occurred.

“Layo pa lang nakita na daan sang driver ka tricycle na dasig padalagan ka motor, nag stop siya, pero nalab-ot siya gihapon ka motor,” Melgarejo said.

Melgarejo said that Genobio was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Alvarez passed away at a hospital a few hours later.

The three wounded victims are still confined at a hospital.
