Two persons died from drowning in separate incidents in Negros Occidental and Panay, Capiz recently.

The body of Raymart Moso, 23, of Barangay Jonobjonob in Escalante City, Negros Occidental was found in a river at Sitio Cagay, Barangay Langub, Escalante City Tuesday.

Major Gil Despi, City Police Chief, said Moso crossed the river of Sitio Napungalan in the said village last Sunday to inform his cousin that the water level was getting higher due to heavy rains.

However, the victim failed to go home that evening after he was believed to be swept by the strong river current, Despi said.

Despi said heavy rains hit the city few days ago causing the water level to rise.

Moso’s body was then found two days later.

In Capiz, a 9-year-old girl allegedly drowned in a river Tuesday afternoon at Barangay Candual, Panay.

Investigation conducted by the Panay Municipal Police Station indicated that the incident happened when the victim (name withheld) swam in the river some 50 meters away from their house together with her older sister and four other friends.

The older sister was the first to be in trouble but she was rescued by neighbors.

But the victim, who was on the other side of the river, was carried by strong current and drowned.

The victim was taken to a hospital here where she was declared dead on arrival.
