BACOLOD City – Two elderly persons died in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on Thursday and Friday.

In Cadiz City, a motorcycle rider died after he was hit by a Ceres Liner bus at Purok Star Apple, Barangay Luna around 11:50 a.m. last Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Carlos Bilbar, 75, of Barangay Bonifacio.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, city police chief, said the victim allegedly suddenly executed a u-turn while the bus was tailing him.

Despi said the victim was not wearing a helmet. “May instances na kapila na daw ma sangit siya sang iban man na motor,” he added.

The victim suffered head injuries and was declared dead in a hospital, according to Despi.

Despi said the bus driver was released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.

Meanwhile, in Silay City, an unidentified elderly woman died after she was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Barangay Rizal around 5:30 a.m. yesterday.

Police Major Rhea Sarah Villanueva, city police chief, said the 39-year-old SUV driver failed to notice the victim, who was standing in the middle of the road, as the area is not well-lighted.

Villanueva said the victim was on her way to work in Sagay City when the accident happened. It was also raining at that time, she added.

As of this writing, the victim has yet to be identified, according to Villanueva.

“Wala ta kabalo if mentally-ill siya (victim) or basi naghalin siya sa ila balay kag dugay na nga galakat-lakat sa dalan,” she said.

Villanueva said they are waiting for the family to claim the victim’s remains at Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital.
