Two Men Injured in ‘Random’ Shooting in Aklan

Two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries in what appeared to be a random shooting shortly before midnight on January 27 in Numancia, Aklan.

Neighbors Reniel Cordova and Warren Villanueva, both from Barangay Bulwang, Numancia, were hit on their right thighs and were taken to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo for treatment.

Captain Conrado Espino Jr., Numancia police chief, said the victims and two friends had dinner at a cafeteria in Kalibo before the incident.

Instead of taking public transport, the group decided to walk home.

As they passed the Numancia-Kalibo bridge, a motorcycle rider slowed down and opened fire several times at the group.

The victims’ two companions managed to run away unharmed.

Espino said the victims were unable to identify the gunman, who was wearing a face mask.

The shooter, who was driving a white Honda XRM motorcycle, fled toward Makato town after the attack.

The victims claimed they had no known enemies and were unaware of any reason for the shooting.

Police recovered eight fired cartridges from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the incident and are working to identify the gunman.
