BACOLOD City – Police are looking into a misunderstanding as a possible motive behind a shooting incident that wounded two employees of an eatery at Purok Progreso, Barangay Sum-ag here last Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Michael Diopeta, 28, and Jemar Berja, 42, both residents of the said village.
Police Major Junji Liba, head of Police Station 9, said the victims were drinking liquor in the eatery when the suspect identified as Rommel Castillo of Barangay Cabug here arrived.
Liba said Castillo was looking for the owner of the eatery, who is the cousin of his wife, but he was not around at that time.
One of the victims pacified the suspect, but the latter allegedly shot him, as well as the other victim.
Police recovered from the scene four empty shells and a bullet of .45-caliber ammunition.
Liba said the suspect was angry after he had a fight with his wife when the latter went to Candoni town.
“Away mag-asawa man lang to galing siguro kay wala siya paukpan bala,” Liba said, adding that the suspect was reportedly drunk.
Diopeta was hit on his shoulder and was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, while Berja suffered injuries on his knee and leg and was taken to South Bacolod General Hospistal here.
Liba said that both victims were already discharged from the hospitals, while the suspect, who reportedly sought refuge in his cousin’s house after the incident, was arrested in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental yesterday afternoon.
