BACOLOD City – Two persons, including a former village councilman were killed in separate shooting incidents in Negros Occidental last Thursday.

In Escalante City, former Kagawad Ernesto Valiente, 60, of Barangay Malasibog, was gunned down by two unidentified men at Sitio Tanquinto, Barangay Mabini.

Valiente was on his way to his son’s house when a gray pick-up truck stopped near him.

Two persons then alighted from the vehicle and shot the victim, police reports indicated.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds on his body. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The gunmen fled towards Barangay Balintawak, bringing along with them their weapons.

Police recovered from the scene six shells of .45 caliber ammunition, a fired cartridge of M16 ammunition, and a caliber .45 bullet.

Major Gil Despi, city police chief, said the victim had no threats prior to the gun attack.

Despi said it is possible that the suspects in Valiente’s shooting were also the perpetrators in two previous shooting incidents in the city.

The investigation is ongoing, he added.

In Isabela town, Jesus Fabillar, 59, of Barangay San Agustin was allegedly gunned down by Lorenzo Marfil in the said village.

Based on police investigation, the victim and his wife were feeding their pigs in their backyard when the suspect, who was allegedly hiding behind a tree, shot the victim.

Fabillar succumbed to gunshot wounds, while Marfil fled.
